Our Story
Introducing the faces behind the saunas.
Meet Laura Brown & Mike Lord and read about their Luna adventure so far and how it led to Luna Hut.
Where it began.
Luna Wave Pop Up
In 2020 Laura and Mike, two kindred spirits with a love for yoga and a passion for wellness, opened the first iteration of their yoga business Luna Wave as part of a collective of pop-up businesses with a focus on wellness, located on the Kemptown seafront of Brighton.
A simple geodesic dome supplied the opportunity to practice yoga outside with sea-views, but more than this is provide the catalyst for a wellness business to take root for further sustainable growth.
Inspiring Experiences
Mike & Lauraβs biggest inspiration came from a visit to Cork to reconnect with a yoga teachers from the Luna Wave pop-up. Their friend was collaborating with Wild Wellness Sauna - A Finnish Sauna located on the beach.
The experience of alternating between the sauna and freezing Atlantic Ocean provided a notable exhilaration which left a firm imprint in their imaginations.
This led to Mike, who toured across Europe, visiting various saunas in different countries and building up a picture of different sauna styles.
Luna Wilds
The first βwild saunaβ
Laura and Mikeβs own first sauna was launched under the guise of Luna Wilds - an off-grid βwild spaβ and retreat space in the Sussex Downs which they hosted for 3 years.
The sauna was the centre piece around which all other spa and wellness facilities took place.
Luna Wilds allowed Mike & Laura to tune in and test the idea of connection as a medicine through a shared community experience in nature.
The positive feedback from guests was verbal but also visible. People left visibly transformed and this galvanised their belief in the therapeutic benefits of this type of spa setup.
In addition, having their own spa allowed them to indulge in their own regular sauna practice, offering a much needed ritual to balance their busy schedules. A valuable reset button.
Luna Wave
The grown up version
In May 2023, Luna Wave opened the doors to a revised version of Luna Wave. Owing to the huge success of the previous pop-up collective, private investment was rewarded to build a permanent version of this incredible collective on Brightonβs seafront.
This opportunity, coupled with Mike & Lauraβs previous experience and existing valued community, provided undeniable opportunity for Luna Wave to grow up into a substantial yoga offering in Brightonβs wellness scene.
Luna Hut
The first Hut opens at Sea Lanes
Opening a sauna at Sea Lanes right next to their Luna Wave yoga studio and of course the sea felt like a natural transition to make. Their previous sauna experience, plus the perfect beach location combined to create what felt like a perfect addition to both the Luna and Sea Lanes ecosystems.
Collaborating with a talented team of carpenters including Patrick Ayton, they undertook the build of their largest sauna to date which was designed specifically to work for the location.
Not without itβs challenges (Mikeβs South American tour playing for The Cure providing an interesting twist to the plot) they balanced a meticulous build schedule and took the idea from concept to opening day in only 3 months.
Forging a path of balance
Sharing the vision
Laura and Mike, know only too well the pitfalls of maintaining a fast paced life. Hosting and participating in sauna sessions has taught them personally the importance of slowing down and adopting a more deliberate pace. This lesson has become a vital part of their own journey.
For them, Luna Hut is not only a sauna business venture, but a path to a more balanced and mindful way of life.
The constant reminders to slow down and be present have been invaluable & witnessing the transformational aspect of regular sauna practice have reinforced their belief that they are on the right path.
As Luna Hut expands, they are committed to sharing this experience with an increasingly wider community, in the hope that others can gain the benefits from it as much as they have.
